Ever wondered how some eyelet curtains always seem to hang in beautifully even folds?

There’s a surprisingly simple trick you can try — and it uses something you’d normally throw away.

Save Your Empty Toilet Rolls!

Instead of throwing away the cardboard tubes from your toilet rolls, save a few and use them as spacers between the eyelets on your curtain pole.

When eyelet curtains are opened, the folds can bunch together unevenly. Placing cardboard tubes on the pole between the eyelets helps keep the folds more evenly spaced, giving your curtains a neater, fuller and more uniform appearance when they’re open.

How to do it

1. Take your curtain off the pole.
2. Thread the first eyelet onto the pole as normal.
3. Add a clean, empty cardboard toilet-roll tube onto the pole between the appropriate eyelets/folds.
4. Continue along the curtain, using the tubes as hidden spacers where needed.
5. Rehang the pole and arrange the folds evenly.

Once your curtains are in position, the cardboard tubes sit behind the folds, so they shouldn't be noticeable from the front.

It costs virtually nothing, reuses something you'd otherwise throw away and can make ready-made eyelet curtains look much more evenly dressed.

Extra tip: If a full toilet-roll tube creates too much space for your particular curtains, simply cut the cardboard tube shorter until you're happy with the spacing.
